Lifjell

Today I was up at Lifjell, the mountain/range west of Bø. We were a group of about 10. I left my place at 8 something this morning and got back about 5.30. It takes about 20-30 min. to drive from Bø to base.  It is incredible up there.
Driving
Lifjell is also a ski resort. There are also many hytta (huts/cabins) in the area.
When we got the base it was in a fog, I did not take a picture of it because we all know what fog looks like.
It did quickly start blowing off though.
Donkey hat...with a pig nose. Poinkey.
We stopped briefly at this cabin
Bø is actually sort of right frame in this picture. The water you see out there is Norsjø and on the NW end (nearest) is Gvarv where the apple festival is tomorrow.
Then the sun poked out every now and then after some showers.
You are going to have to excuse the black on that picture. I could nearly not stand it was blowing so hard up there. It was absolutely wild. Leeeean into it.
We then found an area more sheltered where we could build a fire and cooked some lichen bread.
Maybe you are not familiar with it. In Scandinavia, Iceland especially, lichen was, and to some extent is/was, used as a filling agent in grains. Not only is it a filler but it also has a high level of protein in it. Just make sure you boil it in birch ash first or it is kind of toxic...Our mix was about 30% lichen and tasted wonderful. Toss some mashed blueberries on there with butter and you have happy campers. Naturally we got all of the stuff off the mountain. We carried the cast iron.
Back down
A successful trip with great vibes.
I have laundry to finish and a dinner to get to so
I will leave you with this shot from downtown Bø.
