Bø Kyrkje

This is awesome. This hill that the Church(s) are built on in Bø has been used for over a thousand years for religious purposes. The old church standing here has been dated to 1178. That is right on the tail end of the Viking period. Under the church are remains, old coins, and offerings from much earlier times. It is easy to understand why the area did well. The land is more conducive to agriculture than other parts of Norway.

Some of the stuff in here is from a little later than 1178.
The newest stuff though is no newer than about 1500.
Pulpit
Fun fact: No windows on the north side because that is where heathenism comes from. Windows are really only on the south towards Rome and the epicenter of Christianity.
Runes.
Intricacy in a lot of this place.
And here is another shot of the newer church. With a bustling population the old church got to be too small, hence the upper seating. This church was built 1850 or something like that.
A Welsh friend of mine turned 21 yesterday. I gave him an American Dollar and a few drinks. He was happy for the drinks, but I have never seen someone so happy to receive a dollar.
He said he would hang it on his wall.
