Språk

I attended a discussion panel on minority languages. Four professors were in attendance each presenting a language and cultural issues related to the culture(s)/language(s).
Represented were Ulster Scots and Ireland, Oaxaca state in Mexico and the languages within the state, Sámi and Sápmi, and the two forms of Norwegian. To be honest I am not sure why Norwegian was included as it is one of the predominate languages in the world. I think the inclusion was only because of the nature of this Norwegian founded university and the linguistic nature of the panel, whatever. The panel was interesting. I was already aware of all issues relating to Sápmi and Norway and have a fair handling on Oaxaca but the Ulster Scots part was pretty interesting.

Work continues on a research project involving Ethnic/Cultural preservationism within Ole Rølvaag's speeches and realist immigrant novels.  That goes in this week along with the final on Thursday. Research ensues.

Kim, my roommate from Norway moved out a few weeks ago. He moved in with a friend of his from Norway one floor up as he was not able to tolerate another roommate here. No word yet on the next roommate. I had to fill out another roommate survey thing. I think the powers want someone in here by Spring quarter. That starts on the 5th of Feb.

At work we are painting and have to have that done before an exhibition can go up on the Jews during WWII in Denmark. That exhibition should be up by the 5th. On the 6th we have a large exhibition going up for the Sámi that I hinted at in the last post. Things are at full speed and are only picking up through the end of this week. Blort.
