Morgedal

This last Friday I went to Morgedal. This is considered the birthplace of skiing as a sport. Prior in history skiing had been mostly used as a tool. Sondre Norheim is considered the man responsible for this. Apparently people make pilgrimages to this place and where he lived.
A group of Japanese people even removed their shoes and such when coming onto the farm grounds.
Anyway, there is a ski museum there in Morgedal that I also checked out.
Actual tent and gear used on the Amundsen expedition to the south pole.
Interesting one partial armed man that did an expedition to the south pole.
The museum had several theaters where we watched some films.
Plenty of displays
Bunch of old signs. Neat.
Pioneer in ski waxing.
In fact, the color coding system they invented is still in use today.
First examples of snowboards
The Olympic flame was started in the fireplace ad Sondre's family residence up in the hills of Morgedal for the 1952, 1960, and 1994 Winter Olympics.
The torch continued burning here just outside the museum.
Then we took a hike up the hills to Sondre's family residence.
The place. They were very poor and lived up in the hills. Husmenn.
Here be the fireplace.
Good times. We left Bø around 8.30 and made it back by 18.00 or so.
