Hytte

I was out hiking along the river and came across this cabin. Cabins are all over the mountains in Norway and are open to use for anyone, free. They range from the size of this one to quite large but are usually quite the hike to get to. The other great act Norway has enacted is called allemannsrett. This goes back to viking times for various reasons. Basically anyone can enter the land and use the land for recreational purposes anywhere the land is not developed.
If you see a section of woods and want to camp there, do it.
You like that mountain? Climb it.
Are those good looking berries on that hillside? Eat them.
You have to be away from pre existing structures and you are supposed to avoid farmer's fields, but you are in your right. I suppose this is quite different from the continental U.S. where you could get your head blown off for trespassing.
This sits near a giant rock beach on the river.
Here is the view from the porch.
Rock "beach". The river nearly does a 90* bend here.
quite a bit of force on that rock.
Make faces.
Further down the trail. Lingonberries.
Yea, everywhere. They have nearly been picked clean though.
This structure was just as creepy as it looks.
Across here was an old suspension bridge at one time. It was large enough to carry horse and wagon. The remnants can still be found on the west bank (right side). If I remember right the sign said it came down in like 1901 due to a heavy run off year.
I guess the temperature has nipped a tad a couple of nights.
This certainly is not due to lack of water.
Switching to another area; here again is a picture of the natural area I go through on the way to the school. It is behind town center. There is a creek/river/thing/marsh that runs around through there.
This is a statue of Neri Valen. He was from Bø in Telemark and dealt with politics. He was a representative for Telemark in the parliament 1931-45. He was part of the pro Norwegian movement during the war and was arrested by the Germans and put in jail in 1943 where he sat until the war's end. This statue was erected in his honor in 1958 and placed here in town center.
Just part of town. Akademika (the building with the two blue awnings) is where I buy books.
Last night I saw Guardians of the Galaxy again. This time in 3D and with Norwegian Subtitles, heh
Today around 2 is kaffekosen. Basically free coffee and a chance to hang out with other international students and Norwegian students that care to see what the world has to offer at the school in Bø...us.
