This last week the Norwegian class met with the Viking class. We went through Trymskvada "Tryms Saga-Poem". The "story" is broken into stanzas so we took each stanza: first in Old Norse, then in Norwegian, then in English. This was to help the Viking class understand the importance of linguistic variation in the understanding of a text and how meanings can be diffused or rearranged through translation. It went well and I was surprised to see/hear a couple of the students do relatively well in reading the Old Norse. The Norwegian level was likely over their head as well, but they could read it! We met in Xavier and I had not been through much of that building on campus. It is one of the old buildings and you would never know how modern it is inside based on the outside of the building. Many of the classroom incorporate the old architecture with modernity. The ceiling in the room we met with for the Viking class looked like a Viking hall. I like it.
I had to do the dentist thing on Thursday morning in Oly. only to be back in campus by 11am. A meeting Wednesday that lasted until 8.45 made that fun.
Yesterday I drove out to Point Defiance and hiked around. The weather was incredible. It is kind of funny that amongst all this city there is a small spit of nature left...with fire hydrants.

So that was nice. I came back and sort of just hung out. Washed my hands and decided that these are some of the larger inventive flops of today. #1 I dare you to not bump your hands into the dirty machine. #2= Lies.
The sunset was nice last evening. Out my window.
