Since moving from Spokane to Olympia it has become apparent that I needed/wanted a bike to handle pavement. Spokane is all about the mountain biking and I absolutely love that. I miss being able to leave my doorstep and be out in the woods blasting through trails. In Olympia you have to drive to any trails partially due to "development" of houses, business, etc. and also partially due to the fact that the forest here is so much more dense. I guess trails and biking off pavement is not as popular as in Spokane. Either way, Olympia has a great set up for road biking with bike lanes on nearly every major road. Traffic is also obnoxiously compliant with bikes. My main mountain bike is fairly light in mtb world but makes for a lousy bike on pavement. With this being the case I had been on the hunt for a cheaper bike more suited to road use. Last night I found that bike. It is an old 10 speed Sekai frame from Japan converted to a single speed. This makes for less maintenance when the weather turns. Another great thing about this bike, for the bike nuts out there, is this has a "flip flop hub" meaning I can thread another cog on the other side of the hub and have either a different gear ratio or place a fixed cog on it and run the bike as a fixed gear bike. Specs on the bike if you care; nearly everything is brand new:
-Sekai Sprint 1500-unsure on the model year for now.
-Powder coated frame-it is lugged and gorgious.
-700c Alex AOE-19 rims wrapped in Forte Pro DC rubber. 700x23 black/red
-Gear ratio of 42x17 free-Shimano
-Sugino Alp crankset 165
-Forte pedals
-Dia Compe brakes/aero hoods
-Uno stem
-Sekai drop bars
-Fresh bar tape
-Comp seatpost
-Charge saddle
Like I said the thing is literally brand new in components with fresh lube. The best part is I picked this up for onehundredbones in Tukwila while dropping the female parental unit off at the airport.
I am thrilled with it :)
Very nice! Cool looking bike. Of course, all I can imagine is you riding in the rain and being drenched up your back since there are no fenders! I know, I know, I'm old! :)
ReplyDeleteSkunkback! Not old, just practical! I am on the hunt for good fenders, I just have to make up my mind on which ones I want to buy :)
